Microtransacitions of this nature break the sandbox - That is everyone's primary concern.
For years your customers have suggested numerous ways that not only could CCP profit from, but would allow players to create content in reasonably quality controlled ways. Many of these same people also created the third party apps, and we all know how that is going.
CCP is correct in the fact that people wish to invest into their hobbies. But a hobby is not about having the end result, the hobby is all about the creation of the end result. Instead of creating an environment where developers, 3d modelers, texture makers, clothing designers, authors, musicians, sound engineers and dreamers could help create Eve, you instead opted to take the cheap tacky route. (I am not talking about SL in space here, if someone is daft enough to think that, go clean your room like mommy told you to an hour ago.)
CCP could have profited immensely for years, not only in terms of money, but the additional loyalty that comes from engendering a sense of pride and ownership, even if all the IP rights belonged to you, regardless of what we had created.
By some of those opinions in the newsletter, change Eve from an environment of creativity and adventure, into a world of theme parks and junk food restaurants. Instead of considering who we are, you assumed who we are, and unfortunately, it appears as though we all look like cows in your eyes.
This is what we cows have heard ...
We were told that old standing core mechanic issues would be addressed Moo We were told feature after feature would be fixed and iterated upon Moooo! We were told PLEX would only be used to combat RMT Moooooo!! We were told MTs would never come to Eve MOOOoooooo!!
Now we see this little newsletter, right after the scorpion debacle, along with the 3rd party monetization ordeal, and now we are to continue to trust?
MOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!
IF CCP's vision is a theme park, and that's what you guys want, so be it, but be honest about it. At this stage, it's going to take a complete 180 or blatant honesty to get your selves out of this mess.

Is that supposed to be your answer to the question of whether or not you'll be able to buy non-vanity items with RMT?
Sad part is, MT of this nature, even if it is just vanity, does impact the sandbox. Vanity impacts will be somewhat mitigated over the long term by the natural effects of marginal utility and eventual substitution by second hand goods. But they do have an impact, it is just more difficult to precisely pin down the manifestations versus the impacts of non-vanity.
The most likely manifestation perhaps could have been the price of PLEX it self, and that assumption may likely have been the deciding factor in Nex prices.

Someplace in this monster of a thread, Manifest said "Aurum is here to stay." I submit the temptation to abuse it, by CCP is also here to stay then as well.
History shows that anytime someone has the ability to abuse a device for the purposes of making a profit, it is abused until the customers, the citizens, the peasants et alia, shut it down. The most abused monopoly history has ever known, given by governments to groups or individuals, is the power to print and coin money.
"Aurum is here to stay." - Do be painfully aware, CCP, you may be the Central Bank in Eve, but you are not the Central Bank in the real world. We do not need, nor do we want, two monetary masters.

Man, I guess I am the only that sees the good in this. I can't wait for my name to be on the killmail having me destroy a ship some cat paid $200 for...
That $200 dollar ship poofed out of thin air represents $200 dollars worth of game time, of entertainment, of emergent game play, of fun, stolen from the sandbox, stolen from everyone else.
If it is not poofed out of thin air and is just a skin, that $200 skin represents $200 of overly demanded PLEX and further distortions in an already inside out economy. An in-game economy that already relies on one of the most important economic fallacies of all time actually not being false in context of the sand-box.

Well you can try to explain why. Instead of it. It would be actually far more productive.
Nerves are frayed, some are tired, many have done the explanation many times and are simply tired of doing it. Doubt they meant anything personal by it.
The main over riding issue is that micro-transaction items require virtually no input from the sandbox to create. For example, a ship magically created removes all the potential game play that the production of that ship would have required from the sandbox.
This removal of game play, of value, is taken from the noob miner to the 0.0 miner, to the can flipper to the hot dropper and his 23 SuperCap friends out on a Sunday afternoon drive. Each micro-transaction created item takes a tiny bit from everyone, as more and more MT items are created, those tiny bits add up until the sandbox has no meaning.
Purely cosmetic vanity items, although they could have an impact on certain aspects of the sandbox, they have a far less value at a mechanical level, and thus, have far less mechanical impact on the sandbox.
Although some argue PLEX is a micro-transaction, this is demonstrably false. The ISK for which that PLEX is sold, was collected by someone in the game doing whatever it is they do. Thy put forth an effort and got a reward of ISK. They then trade that ISK for a PLEX. The guy who sold the PLEX now has the ISK, and the other guy has the PLEX. Nothing was added or removed from the sandbox, except the need for one or both of them to break the EULA. CCP profits and the players profit from PLEX.
The only ones who profit from MTs are CCP, and they do so not only at the expense of the $Cash spender, but of everyone in the game that now no longer has the opportunity to participate in the creation of the MT created items.
MTs are theft.

Regardless of the source, or authenticity of the quote, it has value of its own. Clearly CCP is not a government, but the sentiment holds true. CCP is a business, we are their customers. No Customers, No Business.

Nope, vanity is immune from pod destruction, for now. Can be destroyed if cargo.

Have you not also seen the changes to the structure of the game engine to allow for all these things to be monitized?
Have you not seen features being removed so they can be added again later as MT?
The story is kinda complex so I won't and probably can't build the complete picture for you. Especially if your frame of mind is to never believe it regardless.

It will be stupid for CCP to keep on like this.
Yeah I caught that one too. CCP needs to do a 180, quickly. They won't though, too far down the road. They can though. MS did a huge direction change in less than a month in the mid 90s. Was quite an acomplishment.

I play EVE because it's a sandbox, and because it's a hobby. I am irritated by lots of idiotic game mechanics (the bump mechanic anyone?), but that I'll deal with. What I don't appreciate is being mandated to burn computing resources for an utterly useless feature (which I've turned off, by the way). But even THAT can be overlooked.
What cannot be overlooked is that CCP is obviously intending to start selling in-game items for cash. When that happens, it destroys the EVE economy, destroys the sandbox, destroys the immersion that they're talking about, and destroys any sense of in-game fair play. Yes, EVE is cutthroat, but everyone can be equally cutthroat. All you're doing here is implementing RMT and removing ANY player involvement from it. (PLEX redistributes ISK. Aurum creates it.)
And what is with the modifications to drones, probes, skills, augmentations, and God only knows what else that people have been talking about? What's with gagging people on channels?
What about implementing features like POS onlining and anchoring queues? What about getting rid of the asinine bump mechanic which is nothing but a pain in the ass? What about fixing the Technetium problem/bottleneck? Why not do something -- or at least try to do something -- about the damned message bots spamming scam messages in every trade hub?
All this tells the player base and the world at large is that CCP doesn't give a rat's ass about the environment that they created, which MADE their company, and which tens of thousands of people have poured countless hours into as a hobby, and paid subscription fees for the privilege.
But who cares, right? After all, greed is good.
Protect the sandbox!

A Parting word before sleep, with no particular point, sure to be lost in the ever growing thread; lethargic if nothing else.
We're all aware that CCP so far refuses to answer The Big Yellow Question, and we've our fears about that. It seems as though CCP wants to make this all about the prices in the store, as if that is our concern. If we look at most of the gaming press at that time, it was to laugh at CCP's silly prices. CCP is not answering us, they are answering the press.
But the press is slowly pulling the story to the 'pay to win' issues despite CCP's best efforts to the contrary. Other MMO communities are starting to talk about what we the Eve community are doing and why as well.
We are CCP's past revenue stream. It seems as though CCP feels they can ride it out, make up new subs with 'good press' of 'awesome' and some cheap tacky space pants. That is, or was until now, their new revenue.
We have taken it beyond CCP's calculations. CCP used to always be proud that the community grew Eve to be greater than the sum of its parts. I think CCP is beginning to learn that the community does not belong to them, it belongs to us, it always has. Most of the time we're blowing each other up so we didn't recognize it quite so tangibly. That veil has fallen.
CCP can not ignore the gaming press, they depend on it. They must have it, they can not launch their new products or attract new loyal customers to a company with bad press. So far they have completely screwed them selves.

The next step is reducing prices and making apologies. This in turn will still allow them to sell things for cash, but also maintain their loyal fanbase.
This is all about drama my friends, welcome to the world of "As CCP turns".

The Nex prices are just a symbol of how out of touch CCP is.

Essentially yes. CCP should have never made the suggestion ever if they had a concern for the integrity of the sandbox. Add that to the $99 3rd party issue, the years of promised fixes and iterations that have never come. Then we see the LOLprices in the store, just shows how far off track CCP has become with what customers want. Instead of listening, they are forcing. Then drop the 'Fearless' letter in the mix, and pitchforks are the result.

I vote that they are CCP PR alts. And will be doing this until it blows over. Then they will all vanish magically never to be heard from once its over.
Funnily enough the ones that are a little obvious stop posting as soon as called out for being CCP.
There have been a few times where they came in enforce (3-4 at a time) and tried to turn the debate onto "vanity items are too expensive".
edit: the best part is they all have no avatar :-D
I have noticed a few common themes. That isn't exactly proof of anything though. We pitchfork welding geese have a common theme too. Hopefully CCP sees the light and we can all go back to arguing with one another and settling it in the sandbox :)

The first thing that is going to happen is that newb is going to raise holy hell that he paid cash for those guns and it isn't fair that he lost them so quickly and will refuse to buy more because its a waste of money.
Do you think CCP will protect the old dinosaur player that is damaging its new revenue stream or will rush in to protect the bottom line?
What actions do they have available to protect that revenue stream from drying up?
They already did this with the vanity items. At first they were pod-destroyable, a few people started to point out how this will effect the entire marginal utility equation and usefulness of the store at all, and before you know it, poof - Non-destructible magic teleporation pants. No wonder they cost $1000. (Just wish I had had those when a certain young lady I had met forgot to mention that she was married, but enough about me...)

Originally by: Yakumo Smith I think one of the biggest things CCP seems to forget is how important single players can be in this game.
I've seen a lot of corps fall apart when the CEO or main FC decided to leave. Eve is a sandbox and if you are in it to PVP, the game content can be driven by a few key players. If these key players start to leave, the game experience as a whole diminishes.
Losing a subscription from mission runner johnny in high-sec isn't going to cause eve any problems. Losing alliance leaders, CEO's, directors and most importantly FC's is going to result in a reduced game experience universe wide.
In the P2P model being touted in this thread...you could lose millions of players and those remaining could still have a similar game experience day to day. In Eve, you lose a SINGLE key player and 3000 people have to move their stuff back to empire.
All so very true. We are Eve's content. Flash in the pan dopamine addict P2W players don't want to target ships and orbit. It's just not the same kind of game play as an FPS or a fast paced twitch game. This is a slow game, it needs people interacting on both small and large scales to work.

Yes I think in the short term it indicates a few things. Just not a metric that can be weighed too heavily. Give it enough weight and the fanboys will think it has value as well. Knowing markets, sooner or later it will turn in ISK terms, and the fanboys will jump all over it. It's not a reliable metric for either camp.
New GTC spawned PLEX added to the market, over the long term, would be. Numbers CCP doesn't hand out very often.

Buying ammo etc, I see no problem with that as long as it is standardised, faction or tech II ammo and of comparable market price. But then why bother? you have a market. Why bother adding market goods to the nex store? No need nor point.
You are right that selling the same things would be pointless. Even if they did and people bought it, that would take away from other players that produce those things and all the pirates that try to stop them.
Part of the concern of the community is CCP will add things that can be gotten in no other way than the Nex store. This would not only cause a P2W situation, but all those 'normal' game things are now substandard.
As for the community, when you gather a large group of people, with a similar concern, and they are angry, mobs form. It's quite normal in human history. People that play Eve aren't going to be different in that regard, especially people that like to shoot each other with internet space ships and smack in local.

Who are the ppl most likely to tell other ppl how awsome it will be?
For Wod - White Wolf has a fan base, or did as far as I know, and has had one for quite some time. I suspect they would be looking forward to it. That whole 'larp' i guess? When you boil it down, that is what CCP got with the merge, the fan base. No one has IP over the idea of 'vampires', cept Vlad, and he's not filed a law suit in years.
For Dust - I'm sure they were counting on some word of mouth from Eve, but most likely in the FPS advertisement and PR channels.
Will you buy Dust or WoD after this?
Nope, would have done Dust on PC, as stated.

And what's even more hilarious are the quitters who never really quit. Don't threaten, just do it. Don't just suspend your sub...liquidate your accounts, sell your characters in the bizarre, and leave. And no, paying for it with PLEX doesn't mean you're "not giving another red penny to CCP"...you ARE, just by proxy.
Anyway, carry on...
You sure are smart. All those people that are willing to protest with their time, time they have paid for in the game by the way, are just going to up and walk away, instead of use what time they have left in the hopes to get the situation reversed.
Look up oxymoron, you may find your picture there.

Originally by: Ra Vhim I have changed my mind. I no longer believe that MT automatically would kill Eve. I will quote my reasoning from another thread.
Originally by: Ra Vhim
Well, I have been thinking quite a lot about MT since this patch.
CCP will never sell BPOs from the Nex for a simple reason. BPOs don't depreciate in value. They tend to instead appreciate in value as they are researched. Once there are enough BPOs out there, the BPCs are not far behind, then the market is full of ships and no one needs to buy another BPO.
If they start selling BPCs for a RifterPlus, then that creates a pay to win item and we're right back where we started.

Not technically a P2W, but definitely a game-changer in many respects.
It is P2W and I am sure it has been considered. Long ago ship crews were a big "no" in Eve lore and from official sources. That has slowly changed over time. In the dev thread, where they were going to answer all those questions, it is a flat out yes. partly to match some books I suppose (never read any of em.) I wouldn't put it past 'em at this point to sell crew. Golden crew, golden ammo, golden boosters, all the same to me.

Don't forget-- Dust will impact 0.0 sov!
Edit-- Do you really think CCP is going to back down on MT for advantage when they already designed Dust to change the Eve universe???
That has not been lost on me, been saying it since the E3 news. How it manifests in Eve is at this time difficult to predict because we don't know all the links yet. Is it just ISK? What is the faucet/sink ratio in Dust, is Dust going to turn into a giant ISK vacuum? What reason do DustBunnies have to send any ISK back upstairs?
I suspect this is partly why they may have a difficult time in answering The Big Yellow Question, because MT P2W is coming to this 'eve-verse' in Dust. If they say "no never in Eve", but then say "yes for dust", then the marketing blurbs of "one universe/one war" start to look kind of thin. Rock meet hard place - And this assumes they were not going to try and slurp $cash from Eve in the first place.

You're correct, it's not about the ISK, not for CCP, for them it is about the $cash. It may be about the ISK for alliances though, if they are forced into positions where they have to flood their DustMercs with ISK, and if Aurum can be transferred between Eve and Dust ... Big Yellow Question is a dangerous one, regardless of what they had intended for the Internet Space Ships side of things.

Ahh my firend you miss the point completely, this Gold Scorp comes to you by magic for $$$, no minerals mined from the game, no loot refined from the game, no BPO researched, no BPC's copied, no production slots occupied making it, no player involved shipping it to market etc, etc, etc. and no player getting ISK for its production. So while it is technicaly a 'vanity item' its effect is game breaking.
Except, of course, that the process you describe was never intended to be the process when paint jobs become widely available.
When people said they would be nervous even about the short term, quick and dirty test that was proposed, they immediately decided to hold off a bit until the full system could be implemented.
Your point?
They should have never contemplated the "test", as you put it, in the first place. Having gone forward with the idea/"test" indicates either a short sighted view of the sandbox, read bull shopping for china, or they intended to turn up the heat in the pan of water for all us spaceship flying frogs.

1: If CCP were foolish enough to do this, keep in mind that items/services sold through the NeX are available to all players. Older players would benefit just as much, if not more, than noobs.
Noobs will be hurt more by MT than anyone.
Originally by: Ranger 1
2: Also keep in mind pay to win refers to being able to buy an in game advantage with cash, an advantage not available via other means. All items/services sold through the NeX are readily available to everyone whether they spend cash or ISK to get their PLEX/AURUM.
That purchasable advantage will lead to a lesser value of something comparable. That lesser value permeates through the economy. It will effect those closest to what ever is being substituted first, and then work its way out across the entire economy.

Micro-transaction items require virtually no input from the sandbox to create.

However, of course... there is also the extension of the old Plex system of which you have no problem: Player generates ISK in game -> Buys PLEX from Player B -> Converts PLEX to Aurum
The concern isn't that so much as, what can be produced with that Aurum. If it something that no one else can make, or requires no equivalent input from the sandbox, then it will in the long run ruin the game.
If people can just magic ships or ammo, much less better ones, into the game, then all the industry, the trade, all the logistics go away. Plus all the chances to blow them up and the inevitable counter attacks.
There's this old peanuts cartoon, where snoopy is wandering across the desert, and he's thirsty, needs water, you know snoopy, always an over actor. Anyway along comes Sally and puts down his dog dish full of water, she says "Here's your dish, you looked thirsty". In the next frame Snoopy is there looking bored asking, "What fun was that?"
